In practice
Another regime, not an option
A vehicle with a driver is not a self-drive rental with a driver added on. The insurance is not the same, nor are the documents required, and the fuel is included in the price. It is a licensed carrier that performs the service.
For which uses
Airport transfers for a group, moving a delegation about, a multi-day circuit with a driver who knows the roads. As soon as there are nine of you, or you would rather not drive in Senegal, it is the right answer.
What is included
The driver and the fuel. Unlimited mileage. A security deposit may be asked for depending on the operator; its amount is given to you before departure.
What exactly you are booking
As with the other professional categories, the booking is for the category: the vehicle provided will belong to that class, without necessarily being the one shown above.

Why this offer works differently from the rest of the site
Carrying passengers for payment is a regulated activity. It requires a licence, a vehicle declared for that use, and insurance covering passenger transport — three things a private owner renting out their car does not have, and does not need to have.
The offers shown here therefore come only from listed professionals, and they are booked like an agency offer: one provider, one service, one price. We do not put carriers in competition over your request, and we do not send your request to several of them.
- 1
You choose the service
Transfer, day hire, or long-distance trip. The professional listing shows the listed offers and their price.
- 2
You complete the request
Dates, times, number of passengers, pick-up and drop-off points. Options are chosen in the same place as for a rental.
- 3
You pay 20% online
As everywhere on the site: 20% of the total when booking, the balance according to the terms of the service.
Four situations where a driver is the right choice
The airport transfer
Arriving at night, after a long flight, with fifty kilometres to cover and without knowing the road. It is the most common case, and often the most sensible.
Day hire
A business trip with several meetings in Dakar: parking and traffic cost more time than the journey itself.
Long-distance trips
Dakar – Saint-Louis, Dakar – the Saloum, Casamance: a day on the road you would rather not drive yourself, especially on the way back.
Groups
From seven or eight people, the question is no longer comfort but the vehicle. That is where the minibus comes in, and it falls under the same regime.

Category M in Senegal: being driven, and why it is another trade
Category M is not a rental with a driver added on. It is a transport service, performed by a licensed professional with his own vehicle and his own insurance. You do not drive, you do not sign a rental contract, and you leave no vehicle under your responsibility.
This page says what the law requires of the person who drives you, what the price includes, and in which cases being driven is the right calculation rather than a comfort.
What the law requires of the person who drives you
Carrying people for payment is a regulated activity. It requires three things a private owner does not have: a licence, a vehicle declared for that use, and insurance that covers the carriage of passengers — not simply driving, not renting to a third party, but carrying paying passengers.
That is why this category never appears among the private owners' listings, and why we refuse to put a traveller in touch with an owner offering to drive. It is not a commercial precaution: an accident in those conditions is settled without insurance, and the exposure runs both ways.
The counterpart of that strictness is simple: on a category M offer, the passenger transport insurance premium is already in the price quoted. You have nothing to check, nothing to add.
One consequence that does not show in a photograph: a licensed carrier renews its fleet faster than a private owner. The fleet on the road in Senegal is old — an average of around twenty years for private cars in the capital region — and a decree signed on 24 October 2025 raised the age limit on imports from eight to ten years. A vehicle declared for carrying passengers passes checks the neighbour's car does not.
What is included, and what is agreed separately
The price quoted includes the vehicle, the driver and his time, the fuel on the planned route, the operator's passenger transport insurance, and our share — it is already in the amount, nothing is added to it.
Four items are agreed before the service, because they depend on what you ask for: waiting time and running over the agreed hours, tolls and parking on certain routes, the driver's accommodation and meals on a multi-day trip, and stops added along the way. None of these four is an end-of-journey surprise: they are discussed at the moment you describe what you need.
Mileage is unlimited, as across the whole fleet. A security deposit may be asked for depending on the carrier; its amount varies from one professional to another, which is why we show no figure for it. It is given to you before departure, never after, and never passes through us.
Nine seats, and the threshold the licence does not cross
The regulation in force defines the B licence as covering passenger vehicles with, besides the driver's seat, eight seats at most — nine in total. Beyond that you need a D licence, which requires being twenty-five and having held a B licence for at least a year.
That threshold explains the category. A nine-seat minibus can still be driven on a B licence; as soon as a group goes past it, nobody in the group can legally take the wheel. And even below it, driving nine people on a road you do not know is not the same thing as driving alone.
The same text specifies that a seat means a seat intended for an adult, and that children under ten count as half a person, up to ten children. A large family with young children therefore often stays under the threshold — but the question of who drives does not go away.
When being driven is the right calculation
The airport transfer. Arriving at night, after a long flight, with some fifty kilometres to cover and no knowledge of the road. It is the most frequent case, and often the most sensible.
The day of appointments in the capital. The traffic model of the Dakar transport authority gives a congestion rate of 40 % between 5 and 6 pm, and the study on transport externalities counts 5 minutes of access and parking in an average journey of 35.6 minutes. With four appointments in a day, that is twenty minutes spent looking for somewhere to park — and nobody at the wheel while you read your files.
The long-distance trip. Dakar–Saint-Louis on the RN2, the Saloum, Casamance: a day's driving you would rather not do yourself, especially on the way back.
The group. The 2023 census gives an average of 8.6 people per household — 6.2 in the capital region — and 39 % of the population is under fifteen. A family outing, here, is not a couple with two children: it is regularly six, seven or eight people. At that size, two cars and two drivers cost more and rarely arrive together.
A word on what is not a good reason: since 28 September 2026, the regional express train links the capital to the international airport, fifty-five kilometres announced in around fifty minutes. For a single traveller with light luggage, that is often the better choice, and we prefer to say so. For a group with luggage, at an hour the train does not serve, the question does not arise in the same way.
And one reason that is not about comfort. For 2025, the national road safety agency and the gendarmerie, whose counts do not overlap, converge on an order of magnitude of 850 to 870 people killed on the country's roads; nearly a third of accidents occur at night, and the Belgian consular services explicitly advise against driving after dark. A driver who covers that road every week is not exposed to the same risk as one discovering it.
What exactly you are booking
As with the other professional categories, the booking is for a category, not for a model. The vehicle provided will belong to that class without necessarily being the one shown as an example. That is precisely what allows the carrier to guarantee availability without a prior call.
We do not put carriers in competition for your request, and we do not circulate it to several of them for them to bid on. Each offer is that of an identified operator, at its own price. The name does not appear until the booking is confirmed — as with the rental companies on the rest of the site. On confirmation, you receive its full identity, its licence and its assistance number.
The booking is confirmed as soon as you pay: no availability call, no waiting. That is the fundamental difference from the private owners' listings, where availability is checked with the owner before you pay.
What it costs, and what does not exist here
You pay 20 % online at booking, made up of 5 % service fee and 15 % passed on to the carrier. The balance is paid according to the conditions of the service. Nothing else is taken in between.
The weekend package does not exist in this category: it belongs to vehicles from private owners, and it would make no sense on a service charged by a driver's time. The resident rate, on the other hand, exists with the carriers who offer one; it is optional, each one decides whether to grant it, and verification is done once on your account before it applies by itself.
A word on coverage, to finish. The areas offered in the search are those where vehicles are actually available: it is not a list written in advance, it is calculated from the fleet. A new town appears there by itself as soon as a carrier lists vehicles there, and elsewhere a pick-up remains possible on request. If you are looking in an area not yet covered, tell us — that is what decides the order in which we open them.
Checked on 5 October 2026. To review in six months: the number of listed offers, each carrier's own conditions, and the regulatory part of the new highway code, passed but not published.
