Car rental in Saly

Saly is the gateway to the Petite Côte, and renting a car here answers a precise need: no longer haggling over a taxi for every trip, from a beach to a restaurant, from Saly to the Somone lagoon or to the fishing quay at Mbour. This page is not a list of results: it sets out what the area actually asks of a vehicle, where you collect the car, and what you will do with it once you have the keys. Booking is online: you pay 20% of the total when you order, as the introduction fee; the balance is paid locally, when you collect the keys.

Getting around Saly and the Petite Côte

Saly is not a point, it is a ribbon: the resort stretches along the coast, and you quickly pass from Saly Portudal to Saly Niakh-Niakhal, then to Ngaparou, to Somone and its lagoon, or south towards Mbour and its fishing quay. On foot everything looks close; in reality those few kilometres under the sun, with luggage or children, become something else entirely once you have a car. That is the real reason to rent here: linking up places yourself when no convenient transport serves them.

On the tarmac, nothing calls for an off-roader. The coast road and the link to the motorway are surfaced, and an air-conditioned city car will do for most of a beach holiday. A 4×4 is only justified if you leave the main roads: inland tracks, bush access to certain beaches, a trip to the Bandia reserve along laterite paths. The right reflex is to choose the vehicle for what you intend to do, not for the idea people have of Senegal.

One last point of geography matters: Saly is on the road to Blaise Diagne international airport, a little under an hour away by car. That is what makes the area easy to reach on arrival, and it is also why the weekend package makes so much sense here for a Dakar resident: you leave late on Friday afternoon, you have dinner on the spot, and you are not back on the road before Sunday evening.

One thing we don't know

We do not run a desk at Saly, and nobody meets you on behalf of the platform. The car belongs to a private owner or a professional rental company: the handover, the time and the place are agreed directly with them, over WhatsApp, once the booking is confirmed. So we cannot promise you a fixed pick-up point or opening hours: the owner sets them, and they are the person to ask before booking if you have a constraint on time or place.

Where to collect the car

Saly Portudal and Saly Niakh-Niakhal

The heart of the resort: hotels, residences and shops over a few kilometres. The handover is easily arranged around where you are staying.

Mbour

The town south of the resort, denser and livelier, with its large fishing quay. Handy if you are staying on the town side rather than the beach side.

Ngaparou and Somone

To the north, towards the lagoon: a quieter area, often chosen for a green stay a few minutes from the beaches.

Resident or visitor: not the same price

You live in Senegal

The resident rate shows up on its own

All you need is a resident account: the resident rate of the renters taking part in the programme then shows up on its own, on the vehicle as well as on the options and in the basket, with no code and no paperwork. Your status is checked once, by phone, and never asked for again.

You are visiting

The public rate, and the length-of-rental discount

No resident rate, but the lower daily rate on longer rentals works for everyone: the longer the rental, the lower the daily price. It is often the best lever on a two-week stay.

The longer, the cheaper

7 days

first tier, triggered by a full week.

14 days

the tier that really changes the total of a stay.

21 days

beyond that, you are into long-term logic.

30 days

the monthly rate, to ask for directly.

The actual discounts are those the owner has entered for their vehicle: they show in the basket, not here.

Frequently asked questions

Where do you collect the car in Saly?

There is no desk: the handover is agreed with the car's owner, over WhatsApp, once the booking is confirmed. It usually takes place around where you are staying, in Saly, in Mbour or towards Somone. If you have a constraint on time or place, raise it with the owner before booking.

Do you need a 4×4 for a stay in Saly?

No, not for the coast. The roads linking Saly, Mbour, Ngaparou and Somone are surfaced and an air-conditioned city car is enough. An off-roader only becomes useful if you leave the tarmac: inland tracks or bush access to certain beaches.

How long is the drive from Dakar and from the airport?

Allow around 1 hr 15 from Dakar by motorway, and slightly less from Blaise Diagne international airport, which is on the same route. That is what makes Saly a realistic weekend destination from Dakar.

Is the weekend package worth it in Saly?

This is one of the areas where it makes the most sense: the window runs from Friday 4 pm to Sunday 9 pm, charged as two days. You come down on Friday evening and return the car on Sunday, in time for Monday morning. It only exists on private owners' vehicles whose owner has adopted it.

Is there a resident rate?

With the rental companies that offer one: each decides whether to apply a resident rate, and how much. Once your resident account is verified, it appears on its own on the vehicles concerned. Longer rentals also benefit from a lower daily rate, expressed as a percentage and set by the owner.
