Frequently asked questions

Everything we are asked before booking, and what is worth knowing before you set off. If your question is not here, message us on WhatsApp.

Booking

How do I book a vehicle?

You choose a vehicle and your dates, send your request, and pay 20% online to confirm. With a professional, it is done in one go. With a private owner, we first call the owner and they send you a dated presentation of their vehicle.

Can I book for tomorrow?

With a professional, yes. With a private owner, allow for the two exchanges — our call, then their confirmation. For a last-minute rental, bear this in mind.

Why is there no automatic calendar for private owners?

Because it is a personal car. Nobody but its owner can commit to its availability, and a calendar promising otherwise would be wrong.

What happens if the vehicle turns out not to be available?

We offer you equivalent listings, and the options you had chosen are carried over automatically — you do not have to select them again. As nothing has been paid at this stage, there is nothing to refund.

Where do I collect the vehicle?

At the pick-up point chosen in the search. It is an area: the exact address is agreed with the owner on WhatsApp once the booking is confirmed.

Paying

How much do I pay online?

20% of the total order amount, when you book. It is the only amount we collect.

And the rest?

The balance is paid when the keys are handed over, directly to the owner or the professional. We never handle the rental price.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. The amount shown on the vehicle is what you pay: our share is already included. Only the options you tick yourself increase the total, and they do so in front of you, in the basket.

Is fuel included?

No. The vehicle is handed over with a fuel level recorded at departure and must be returned at the same level. This is checked on the condition report filmed by both parties.

What security deposit should I expect?

It depends on the owner, and many do not ask for one: deposits are not customary in Senegalese peer-to-peer rental. When there is one, the amount is shown on the listing and paid on site.

Do you hold the security deposit?

No, never. It is collected and returned by the owner, and we have no power to decide on its return.

Prices and choosing a vehicle

Why are prices shown as “from”?

Because each vehicle belongs to its owner, who sets the rate. We show the lowest amount actually available when you view the page, not a price list that would be wrong the following week.

What does “or similar — category D” mean on a professional listing?

That the commitment is to the category, not the specific vehicle. That is what allows the professional to guarantee availability. It is stated on the listing, on the summary and on the confirmation.

Why can a professional listing be booked straight away, but not a private owner’s?

The professional manages their own fleet and guarantees availability themselves. A private owner lends their personal car: they have to be asked. That is the price of a lower rate and of a vehicle you have seen before paying.

Do you use agencies or rental companies that re-rent someone else’s car?

No. Each vehicle is listed with its owner or the company that operates it. Nobody steps in between to take a cut, so no commission is added on top of another: the price shown starts from the rate the owner has set.

The vehicle

How can I know what the vehicle really looks like?

With a private owner, you receive a dated presentation less than seven days old: full walk-around, readable number plate, odometer filmed with the ignition on, interior and boot. Before any payment.

Do you check the vehicles?

We do not inspect them mechanically. We check the documents: registration certificate in the owner’s name, roadworthiness test less than twelve months old, valid category 8 insurance, road tax sticker. Without these four documents, the listing is not published.

What if the vehicle does not match at handover?

You can refuse the rental. Let us know within two hours of the scheduled handover time, with photos. With a professional, the commitment is to the category: you can refuse if the vehicle does not belong to it.

Is there a mileage limit?

It depends on the listing: unlimited mileage, or a daily allowance with a price per additional kilometre. This is shown on each vehicle.

Insurance, driving and accidents

Is the vehicle insured?

Yes, by its owner, under category 8 — the category that covers renting to a third party. It is a condition of entry, checked before the listing goes online.

What is category 8?

The insurance category that covers a vehicle rented to a third party. A vehicle insured under category 1 — the insurance held by almost all private individuals — cannot be published with us: in the event of an accident, the policy could be void or the payout reduced.

Who can drive the vehicle?

Only the driver named in the contract. Handing the wheel to anyone else voids the cover. A second driver can be added as an option.

Can I take the vehicle out of Senegal?

This requires the owner’s written consent and a check that the ECOWAS brown card is valid for the territory. Ask before you leave, not at the border.

What should I do in the event of an accident?

A report is essential: a joint accident report, or failing that a police or gendarmerie report, sent to the owner within twenty-four hours. Without a report, the insurer is entitled to refuse cover.

Cancelling

Can I cancel?

As long as you have not paid, there is no booking — and so nothing to cancel. After payment, the conditions depend on the notice given and are set out in Part III of the terms and conditions.

And if the owner defaults?

Absent, vehicle unavailable or not as described: you are refunded and they owe you compensation. The details are in the terms and conditions.

In the event of force majeure?

Closure of roads or the airport, an administrative decision: everything is refunded and nobody owes anybody anything.

The resident rate

Who is entitled to the resident rate?

Anyone who lives in Senegal and whose resident account has been checked.

How much is it?

It depends on the renter: each owner, private or professional, decides whether to offer a resident rate, and how much. The discount is borne by the renter.

How do I get it?

A form, proof of address less than three months old, then a verification call and a six-digit PIN code. Only once: the status does not need renewing and you will not be asked for proof again every year.

Do I have to ask for it again with every booking?

No. Once you are logged in, the discount is shown automatically, on the vehicle as well as on the options. It is the account that is checked by hand, not the discount.

Renting with a driver

Do you provide drivers?

We publish offers from licensed professional transport operators. The driver and the vehicle are theirs.

Can a private individual offer their car with a driver?

No. Carrying passengers for payment requires a licence, a vehicle registered for that use and category 4 insurance with passenger liability cover — which a private individual does not have.

How is an offer with a driver booked?

Like a professional offer: you choose a service at a fixed price and the booking is confirmed as soon as you pay. There is no consultation of several operators.

Why can’t I see the transport operator’s name?

Their full identity — company name, licence, assistance number — is sent to you when your order is confirmed.

Renting out your vehicle

What do you take?

Nothing after the rental. The 20% is paid online by the renter at the time of booking, and you receive the balance on site, with nothing to pay back to us afterwards.

Who sets the price?

You do. We show no benchmark, no price range and no default value — the site does not suggest prices.

What do I need to provide?

Registration certificate in your name, roadworthiness test less than twelve months old, category 8 insurance, road tax sticker, and a dated presentation of the vehicle. The details are on the form.

My insurance is category 1 — what happens?

Your application is put on hold, never rejected. We explain what category 8 is and call you back. That is the situation of almost all owners at the start.

Professionals

Can a company list its vehicles?

Yes, with the professional form: RCCM, NINEA, category 8 fleet insurance, and the list of vehicles.

Is the fee scale different for a professional?

No, it is identical: 15% paid by the professional, 5% service fee paid by the renter. The service provided is the same.

Does the customer know they are renting from a professional?

Yes, it is stated on the listing — and it changes their rights: the legal guarantees owed by a professional rental company apply.
