Car rental in Mbour
Mbour is the main town of the Petite Côte, its gateway from the south and one of the country's largest fishing ports. Renting a car here gives you the means to link the town, the nearby beaches and the hinterland without depending on taxis. One useful point: Mbour and Saly form a single area, and the vehicles you will see are those of the whole Petite Côte, not a fleet of Mbour's own. Booking is online, 20% of the amount when you book, the balance when you collect the keys.

Getting around Mbour and its surroundings
Mbour is first of all a town that lives: its market, its fishing quay busy when the pirogues come back, its dense neighbourhoods. Inside the town a city car moves easily, and the essentials happen on surfaced roads. The car is mainly worth it for what lies around: the beaches of Saly and Nianing, the Somone lagoon to the north, Joal-Fadiouth to the south, and the Bandia reserve inland.
As everywhere on the Petite Côte, the type of vehicle follows the use. The tarmac links the main points without requiring an off-roader; a 4×4 only becomes useful if you leave the main roads, towards certain inland tracks or bush access points. For a stay that keeps to the coast and its surroundings, an air-conditioned city car or saloon does the job very well.
Mbour is a few minutes from Saly and about 1 hr 15 from Dakar by motorway: that is what makes it, like its neighbour, a realistic weekend destination from the capital. Since the vehicles are shared across the area, you will see the same listings in Mbour as in Saly: the handover, for its part, is arranged as close as possible to where you are staying.
One thing we don't know
Mbour does not, today, have a pick-up point of its own: it comes under the "Saly and Petite Côte" area. In any case we run no desk: the car belongs to a private owner or a professional rental company, and the handover is agreed directly with them, over WhatsApp, once the booking is confirmed. So we cannot promise you a branch in Mbour itself; what we can say is that the vehicle is handed over as close as possible to where you are staying, to be agreed with the owner.
Where to collect the car
Mbour town
Around the market and the fishing quay: convenient if you are staying on the town side rather than the beach side.
Saly, close by
The tourist heart of the area, a few minutes away: most of the vehicles are there, and the handover is easily arranged.
Nianing and the southern coast
Towards the quieter beaches south of Mbour: to be agreed with the owner depending on your accommodation.
Resident or visitor: not the same price
You live in Senegal
The resident rate shows up on its own
All you need is a resident account: the resident rate of the renters taking part in the programme then shows up on its own, on the vehicle as well as on the options and in the basket, with no code and no paperwork. Your status is checked once, by phone, and never asked for again.
You are visiting
The public rate, and the length-of-rental discount
No resident rate, but the lower daily rate on longer rentals works for everyone: the longer the rental, the lower the daily price. It is often the best lever on a two-week stay.
The longer, the cheaper
7 days
first tier, triggered by a full week.
14 days
the tier that really changes the total of a stay.
21 days
beyond that, you are into long-term logic.
30 days
the monthly rate, to ask for directly.
The actual discounts are those the owner has entered for their vehicle: they show in the basket, not here.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a car rental branch in Mbour?
No: there is no desk, and Mbour does not have a pick-up point of its own — it comes under the Saly and Petite Côte area. The car is handed over by its owner, at a place agreed with them as close as possible to your accommodation, once the booking is confirmed.
Is the offer the same as in Saly?
Yes: Mbour and Saly form a single area and share their vehicles. So you will see the same listings in Mbour as in Saly. The Saly page brings together the whole offer and the context of the area.
Do you need a 4×4 in Mbour?
Not for the town or the coast, which are covered in a city car on surfaced roads. An off-roader only becomes useful if you leave the tarmac: tracks towards the hinterland or the Bandia reserve, bush access to certain beaches.
How long is the drive from Dakar?
About 1 hr 15 by motorway, the same as Saly which is right next door. That is what makes Mbour a realistic weekend destination from the capital, with the weekend package for those coming down for two nights.
Is there a resident rate?
With the rental companies that offer one: each decides whether to apply a resident rate, and how much. Once your resident account is verified, it appears on its own on the vehicles concerned. Longer rentals also benefit from a lower daily rate expressed as a percentage and set by the owner.
